WATCHMAN

Organic Fertilizer–Insecticide (Broad-Spectrum Contact, Stomach, and Systemic Action) WATCHMAN is a completely organic fertilizer–insecticide formulated with rotenone as its active ingredient. Rotenone is a naturally occurring, colorless and odorless crystalline isoflavonoid extracted from the roots and seeds of Derris elliptica. It is highly toxic to insects while exhibiting very low phytotoxicity and is widely used in vegetable production due to its rapid biodegradability and short environmental persistence. Rotenone acts by inhibiting the mitochondrial electron transport chain, resulting in irreversible disruption of cellular respiration in target pests. Naturally occurring in several leguminous plants, rotenone serves as a natural defense compound against sap-sucking insects. WATCHMAN acts by binding to acetylcholine receptor proteins within the insect nervous system, disrupting normal nerve transmission, paralyzing feeding organs, and preventing sap uptake. In aphids, it also interferes with honeydew excretion following systemic uptake, ultimately causing starvation and death. Unlike conventional insecticides, WATCHMAN combines a broad-spectrum botanical insecticide with essential plant nutrients, preventing nutritional deficiencies and growth suppression after pest elimination. Its systemic activity allows the active ingredient to be absorbed by the roots and transported throughout the plant, making it effective even when applied through irrigation without direct contact with the pest. WATCHMAN is also suitable for seed and tuber treatment. When seeds are coated before planting, it forms a protective barrier around the seed, preventing early pest attacks. After germination, the active ingredient is absorbed by the roots and translocated through the plant vascular system, providing protection that becomes evident within 7–14 days. Mode of Action WATCHMAN eliminates sap-sucking insects through three complementary mechanisms:

1. Feeding inhibition: It paralyzes the insect mouthparts, particularly the mandibular joints, preventing feeding. Starvation begins immediately, and within approximately two days dead insects detach from the plant and fall to the ground.
2. Neurotransmission disruption: It blocks acetylcholine receptor activity, preventing normal electron transfer and nerve impulse transmission. Continuous uncontrolled nerve signaling causes severe tremors, paralysis, and ultimately death.
3. Respiratory disruption: It interferes with electron transport and blocks respiratory openings (spiracles), preventing gas exchange. The resulting suffocation, together with paralysis of the feeding apparatus, leads to complete immobilization and death.
